Break time and how we’ll pass it…

It’s time for the only unofficial “vacation” from racing on the NY circuit as there will be no live racing at Aqueduct until December 26.  This is a good time to catch up on reading charts (at least that’s what I’ll do), watching and re-watching some replays of recent races and of course dabbling in a few races from other locales.

The last graded stake race of the year in NY was the Queens County on Saturday afternoon and the outcome illustrated what a rider’s race it wound up being.  There was at least one confirmed speedster (Storm Play), another who was coming off a wire-to-wire win (Honour Devil) and another stretching out from a big win at a one-turn mile (Rodman).  It wound up being Javier Castellano who took the initiative aboard Rodman and after posting a half-mile time of :49.61 while on an unencumbered lead it became clear they were well on their way to the winner’s circle.  That was the case as this son of Malibu Moon scored by nearly six lengths.  Plans are to take Rodman to the Donn and I wish his connections the best of luck but will likely stand firmly against him in that spot based on his soft trip in the Queens County.

In order to spice things up for the next 10 days between Tuesday, December 15 and Thursday, December 24 I’ll review the 10 best races  run in NY this year in descending order as decided by a panel of racing glitterati.

See you back Tuesday to start looking at some of the best races of the year!
