First Guaranteed Pick Six pool gets help

NYRA is debuting an aggressive new item on the wagering menu for this meet at Saratoga as $100,000 is guaranteed in the Pick 6 pool each and every Thursday.  A carryover of better than 38k will go a long way towards getting well over the 100k in the pool.  Let’s take a quick look at the sequence and highlight some potential singles along the way:

Certainly an event where you’re going to want to go as deep as your bankroll will allow.  The wide-open nature of this race led me to #3 MY ELUSIVE DREAM, who should have no problem with the added ground they’ll go today and comes off a bit of a tough trip on the inner turf at Belmont.  Many players are going to go two deep in here with #1 ERMINE SLIPPERS and #2 DYANI but I’ll avoid relying solely on those professional maidens.

#8 AWESOME PREACHER is a very interesting longshot in here as he changes surfaces for a barn that has long done well with this move.  He has been competitive on dirt against better and stands to get a great pace setup with two confirmed speedsters, #5 UNIQUE ALLY and #10 D’BIGCAT signed up in this field.  I’ll use this guy and #11 REDWOOD FEVER.

Wow, what do you do here?  #4 SYSTEM READY should handle the weeds without a problem and has the advantage of a race under her belt but is a filly facing males.  #7 PEB HUGHES has a good pedigree for turf being a half to Cherokee Artist (2nd in G3 this year, recent turf winner) and hails from a barn that has done well with 2YOs trying the weeds.  I’ll rely on those two to get me by this very tough event.

This is my lone single on the card, #6 BEAU CHOIX.  He’s been given some time since his James W. Murphy score on the Preakness undercard but has a full worktab and lands in a spot where things should work out well for him from a pace standpoint.  He retains the riding services of Javier Castellano, who’s off to a white-hot start at this meet and rides the weeds as well as anyone on this circuit.

Another difficult event for NY breds here and I’m going to land on Tagg and Castellano once again with #4 WILD AWAKE.  She has had a problem with showing the killer instinct it takes to win a race but ran well under Castellano on Memorial Day and should get a favorable setup.  She should be helped with #2 GREAT GRACIE DANE and #3 WHO IS LADY, who have both shown what it takes to get the job done in this spot.

#1 DEVON ROCK was a handy winner in his turf debut and then tried much tougher stakes company at Monmouth Park.  He’s a great fit in this N1X and should be prominently placed from the start.  #5 CHEROKEE SPEED is another like Wild Awake who needs to figure out how to close the deal but merits consideration based on his recent form and strong turf effort here last year.

Best of luck wherever you land in the Pick 6!  I’ll see you back for a look at Friday’s sunset racing program!
